ATP: Cos'è Bureau for Art Nerds?
Valentina Sansone: “Bureau for Art Nerds” è un ciclo di due mostre e cinque eventi in corso a Milano fino al 26 giugno (n.b. a cura di Valentina Sansone) e prodotto dall’Istituto Svizzero di Roma. Una parte del progetto si svolge in sedi autogestite e in zone diverse della città – la centralissima Casa Morigi (occupata dal 1976), l’associazione no profit per la promozione di ricerche artistiche O’ all’Isola, la galleria no profit Gasconade in Porta Venezia e il Liceo artistico Caravaggio nei pressi di Via Padova. Una seconda parte del “Bureau” è in corso nella sede di Milano dell’Istituto Svizzero, che in questa occasione si è fatto promotore di una rete di connessioni a favore di soggetti e di pratiche non istituzionali.
Il “Bureau” coinvolge realtà autogestite di recente formazione tra la Svizzera e Milano: Fluck|Paulus, duo formato da un artista (Lauris Paulus) e da una curatrice (Léa Fluck), che organizza mostre in un’ex farmacia a Friburgo; l’Anonima Nuotatori, un progetto nato da un’idea di un artista (Giallo Concialdi) e di un curatore (Guido Santandrea); l’artista svizzera Hannah Weinberger, tra i fondatori dello spazio no profit Elaine MGK e prima ancora attiva nell’ambito del collettivo New Jerseyy, entrambi a Basilea; il progetto interdisciplinare in 13 episodi “Full Moon Saloon”, di Dafne Boggeri; il programma nomade per la promozione di opere di artisti emergenti Hotel Palenque, nato da un’idea di Elise Lammer (curatrice svizzera di base a Londra); Curtat Tunnel, gruppo formato da 4 artisti con base a Losanna; infine la casa di produzione d’arte contemporanea Carrozzeria Margot.

ATP: Cosa ti ha guidato nelle tue scelte curatoriali?
VS: Tutti i progetti invitati condividono una predisposizione all’organizzazione di eventi effimeri e regolati da un sistema aperto, secondo le attitudini e gli interessi specifici di ciascun gruppo. Per l’evento attualmente in corso, Hannah Weinberger ha presentato il suo primo progetto in Italia, 'Concerto locale': una performance e un’installazione sonora trasmessa su 40 canali audio nella sede di Milano dell’Istituto Svizzero (fino al 24 giugno). La performance di Weinberger a Milano si è basata completamente sui concetti di partecipazione e di aggregazione, per la creazione di un network locale a partire da una pratica comune e condivisa.
ATP: Artisti, performers, editori, spazi indipendenti. È un progetto caratterizzato dalla multidisciplinarietà. Espressione dei tempi?
“Bureau for Art Nerds” evidenzia il carattere unico ed effimero di un certo tipo di “azioni”, contraddistinte da un forte spirito di aggregazione e capaci di unire diverse tipologie di eventi allo stesso tempo (presentazioni di libri, eventi musicali live, mostre, spettacoli di danza contemporanea, performance, lecture, DJ set…). L’organizzazione di eventi di una sola sera e dai contenuti di ricerca è alla base della programmazione di buona parte degli spazi autogestiti in Svizzera e sulla scena internazionale indipendente. Queste “azioni” coinvolgono molto spesso la comunità artistica locale, che gravita attorno alle attività del gruppo di autogestione e al suo network.
ATP: È iniziato il 10 maggio e finirà il 26 giugno. Quali sono i prossimi appuntamenti?
VS: Sabato 9 giugno il progetto nomade Hotel Palenque presenta una nuova produzione dell’artista Pedro Wirz (San Paolo, Brasile, 1981. Vive e lavora a Basilea) nel corso di un evento di una sola sera da Gasconade, spazio no profit nato a Milano nel 2011, che presenta il lavoro di artisti italiani e internazionali nati negli anni Ottanta.
Il 25 giugno, il collettivo di Losanna Curtat Tunnel propone il sesto e penultimo appuntamento di “Bureau for Art Nerds”: un concerto del giovane musicista zurighese Galopp, seguito da uno dei principali rappresentanti della scena musicale indipendente: Robert Steven Moore (1952, Nashville, USA), che in più di quarant’anni ha autoprodotto almeno 400 prodotti musicali con la sua casa di produzione: la R. Stevie Moore Cassette Club. Curtat Tunnel cura mostre, lecture e performance musicali nello spazio di Losanna e all’estero. Negli ultimi due anni, e a partire da un approccio specifico all’outsider music, Curtat Tunnel ha organizzato performance dal vivo, lecture, collaborazioni con compositori contemporanei, come il minimalista Tom Johnson.
L’ultimo evento del “Bureau”, con Carrozzeria Margot, è fissato per il 26 giugno e prevede un aperitivo molto particolare al Bar Tubino (in via Padova 30) con la presentazione degli interventi su via Padova e dintorni delle artiste Anna Forlati (Padova, 1980) e Bignia Wehrli (Uster, Svizzera, 1979). A seguire, ci sarà un reading del giornalista Marco Valsecchi con la musica di InVino Veritas al Liceo artistico Caravaggio (dalle 20 alle 22), insieme agli studenti della scuola, che hanno partecipato all’allestimento e all’organizzazione della serata.
ATP: Che scoperte hai fatto in questa ricerca 'sotterranea'?
VS: Finora ci sono state tante scoperte positive, a partire dalle straordinarie energie che i progetti invitati hanno investito in questo programma! Molte delle sedi ‘esterne’ all’ISR e che hanno ospitato i nostri eventi erano sconosciute al pubblico dell’arte contemporanea, ad esempio Casa Morigi, e questo è un dato curioso, considerato che si tratta di un luogo che possiede una tradizione legata agli artisti locali o a quelli internazionali che sono stati attivi a Milano. È soprattutto l’unico esempio in città di un’autogestione durata ben 36 anni.
Lo sforzo di unire soggetti autogestiti diversi all’interno di uno stesso progetto ha dato i suoi frutti. Realtà di questo tipo sono più vicine delle istituzioni a studenti e a giovani artisti, per mezzi e per tipologie di attività... Il Bureau è stato anche un modo per proseguire la nostra ricerca sul territorio svizzero avvicinandoci alla città di Milano.
ATP: Anticipazioni per i prossimi progetti della sede di Milano dell’Istituto Svizzero?
VS: La sede di Milano dell’Istituto Svizzero presenterà una nuova produzione e una personale di un giovane artista svizzero durante STARTMilano.

ATP: What led you in making your curatorial choices?
