Dal 4 giugno al 20 luglio, nell'ambito della quinta Solidarity Action promossa dall'Istituto Svizzero di Roma, viene presentato il Congresso dei Disegnatori. Iniziato da Paweł Althamer alla chiesa St. Elisabeth a Berlin Mitte nell’ambito della 7. Berlin Biennale, il Congresso dei Disegnatori intende fare incontrare gli artisti e il pubblico per dialogare tra loro utilizzando il linguaggio delle immagini invece delle parole. Ognuno è stato invitato a partecipare alla discussione, attraverso la pittura, il disegno a carboncino, il collage o utilizzando altre tecniche e materiali tradizionali, e a rispondere liberamente a questioni attuali legate alla politica, ai simboli del potere, della religione, della crisi economica e altro.

Althamer ha invitato le persone a dialogare in modo libero e onesto. Si può essere educati o politicamente scorretti, frustrati o indignati e si potrà intervenire sui disegni degli altri attraverso un vero e proprio incontro e scontro di immagini. Immagini che si amano, che si odiano, opinioni che si condividono o pretese che si hanno. Tutti i partecipanti sono esortati a dichiararsi apertamente.

Drawers of the world unite!

From 4th June to 20th July and within the framework of the Fifth International Solidarity Action, sponsored by the Swiss Institute in Rome, takes place the Congress of Designers. Initiated by Paweł Althamer, at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Berlin, as part of the Berlin Biennial, the Congress of Designers attempts to bring together the artists and the public to a conversation with each other, using the language of images instead of words. Everyone was invited to join the conversation through paintings, charcoal drawings, collage or by using other traditional techniques and materials, and eventually respond without hesitation to current issues related to politics, symbols of power, religion, economic crisis and more.

Althamer has invited the people to talk freely and honestly. Civil or politically incorrect, frustrated or angry, anyone can intervene on the designs of others, through a genuine confrontation and opposition of images. Either cherished or despicable images, shared opinions or statements these images bear, all participants are encouraged to express themselves freely.

Ho partecipato al concerto con l'immaginazione. Sono stata a vedere il post-performance di Hannah Weinberger all' Istituto Svizzero di Roma con sede a Milano. La grande stanza che accoglieva il suo 'Concerto Locale' - questo è il titolo del progetto - accoglie ora vufer, casse e amplificatori poggiati sopra a file di tavoli vuoti. Nello spazio un misto di rumore, musica, battiti, suoni confusi, ma anche melodie. A volte mi sembra si sentire dei cinghettii, dei tamburi. Tanta musica Dance. E' quasi impossibile stabilire dove inizia un suono e dove ne comincia un'altro. L'artista e la curatrice Valentina Sansone, mi raccontano di come, il giorno prima, sia avvenuto un bizzarro concerto realizzato grazie a 40 performer radunati grazie al passa parola. Ogni partecipante - munito di un computer o uno smart phone, un software e uno speaker - è stato guidato da Hannah per dar vita a un casuale, caotica e imprevedibile polifonia. 

Ogni performer ha avuto la possibilità di concentrarsi sul proprio brano, che, sommato a quello di tutti gli altri, ha creato un'unica e indistinta composizione sonora.

"Le pratiche di aggregazione, partecipazione e confronto nell'ambito di performance, opening o di eventi artistici estemporanei sono elementi ricorrenti nel lavoro di Weinberger. Le sue performance sonore, le composizioni musicali e le installazioni audio sono sempre l'occasione di un incontro e di una partecipazione condivisa; concepite come sovrapposizioni e aggiunte a sistemi apparentemente chiusi, come nel caso degli interventi all'interno di mostre collettive, sono spesso il punto di partenza per una coproduzione o una semplice apertura a pratiche partecipate. Un processo che favorisce uno spostamento significativo da un atteggiamento autoriale e autoreferenziale a un'dentificazione nel lavoro di un gruppo o di un collettivo di autori, annullando gerarchie e iter prestabiliti." I attended the concert using my imagination. I went to see the post-performance of Hannah Weinberger at the Swiss Institute in Rome (ISR), based in Milan. The large room that hosted her 'Concerto Locale' - the title of the project – introduces amplifiers and speakers resting on top of empty rows of tables. On the air, a mix of noise, music, beats, confusing sounds accompanied by melodies. Sometimes I think you hear drums. Lots of dance music. It’s almost impossible to tell where a sound starts and where another begins. The artist and the curator Valentina Sansone, tell me how, the day before, a weird concert took place, thanks to the 40 performers that spread the news, mouth to mouth. Each participant – equipped with a computer or a smart phone, the appropriate software and a speaker - was led by Hannah to create a random, chaotic and unpredictable polyphony. Each performer had the chance to concentrate on her or his music, which was then ‘added’ to that of the other participant, thus creating a unique, hazy sound composition.

"The practice of aggregation, participation and comparison within the framework of a performance, an opening or an impromptu art event, are recurring elements in the work of Weinberger. Her sonar performance, her musical compositions and her sound installations always offer the opportunity of a meeting and of a shared participation, conceived as overlays and additions to systems seemingly closed, as in the case of interventions within the framework of a group show, where these are often the starting point for a co-production or a simple shared practice. A process that sustains a significant shift from the authoritarian and self-referential model, to an identification of the work within a group or a collective of ‘authors’, obliterating the hierarchies, and the established procedures.
