Martedì 22 maggio ore 19 a Palazzo Baldassini (Via delle Coppelle, 35), inaugura la collettiva Extra spirit. Artisti in mostra: Francesco Arena, Michele Bazzana, Silvia Camporesi, Alessandro Cicoria, Nicola Pecoraro, Luana Perilli, Giuseppe Pietroniro, Marco Raparelli, Giuseppe Stampone, Elisa Strinna. A cura di Valentina Ciarallo

Mercoledì 23 maggio ore 19 al Macro (via Nizza) inaugura la mostra conclusiva di Artists-in-residence Open Studios. Artisti: Carola Bonfili, Graham Hudson, Luigi Presicce e Ishmael Randall Weeks. 
Inaugura anche il progetto URBAN ARENA con Bros e Sten e Lex / URBAN ARENA è un progetto ideato in più tappe per dare visibilità alla Street Art, uno dei movimenti più attivi degli ultimi tempi. La terrazza del MACRO aperta al pubblico diviene una sorta di palestra dove gli artisti possono misurarsi con pareti, superfici e spazi mai utilizzati. Protagonisti del primo appuntamento sono Bros e Sten e Lex, tra gli street artist italiani più attivi e apprezzati a livello internazionale, che hanno realizzato due interventi concepiti appositamente per gli spazi del museo.

Stessa sera, alla T293 in via Leutari 32,  la personale  di Henrik Olai Kaarstein, Turning and Returning.

Sempre mercoledì, all'Accademia di Romania in Roma, SPAZI APERTI X.
Spazi Aperti X, a cura di Eleonora Faria, mette in mostra circa 30 artisti borsisti internazionali attualmente residenti in dodici Accademie ed Istituti culturali di Roma, e una ristretta e preziosa selezione di ospiti speciali.
La serata inaugurale include una performance teatrale, Felice l’uomo che è corretto da Dio di Rémy Yadan – ore 20 e una performance musicale/DJ setdi Cos Mir – ore 22. 

Giovedì 24 maggio  prende avvio alle 10 del mattino la giornata organizzata dalla Kunsthalle Lissabon alla Stazione Cisterna (Roma)  per Resident 38: Filipa Ramos una walking residency con  Caribic Residency per info +39 3892568424 to join the troupe

Wednesday, 23rd May at 19:00: At Macro (via Nizza) is inaugurated the final exhibition of the Artists-in-Residence Open Studios. Participating artists; Carola Bonfili, Graham Hudson, Luigi Presicce and Ishmael Randall Weeks. Also inaugurates the project URBAN ARENA with Bros e Sten e Lex / URBAN ARENA. It is a project created in various stages, in order to give visibility to Street Art, one of the most active movements of our times. The terrace of the MACRO, open to the public, becomes a kind of work-out place where artists can compete with walls, surfaces and spaces that remain unused. Bros, Sten and Lex are the protagonists of this first event and are among the most active and renowned Italian street artists on an international level. For the space of the museum they have worked on two interventions specifically designed to interact with the space itself. 

On the same evening, at T293 (via Leutari 32), the solo show of Henrik Olai Kaarstein, Turning and Returning.
Also on Wednesday, at Accademia di Romania in Roma, SPAZI APERTI X, curated by Eleonora Faria, showcases 30 artists, currently residing in twelve academies and cultural institutes in Rome, a small selection of precious and special guests.
The opening includes a performance theater, Felice l’uomo che è corretto da Dio (Happy is the man who is right by God) by Remy Yadan – at 20:00, a musical performance / DJ set: Cos Mir at 22:00.

Feb 29 2012: Mai Ueda's "ElectronicTea Ceremony" at theMACROeo (electronicOrphanage) in Rome

ATP: Hi, Miltos, how are you?

Miltos Manetas: I am fine. Totally happy and at the same time having a hard time squared into the universal but new for me, format of parenthood. Becoming a father is a very peculiar situation, I had no idea.. Its  Life 2.0 and in many ways a lot more interesting than anything I had experienced until now. 

ATP: Why have you decide to live in Rome?  

MM: Once that I learn that the baby was coming, I was comfortable with the idea to have it in some forgotten village on a beach of South America or in the Amazon forest. But making babies is a collective effort: the deal with Catalina, my collaborator in this project, was to pick a city with art and culture. At that moment, after two years of freedom from my carrier and ambitions, I  really couldn't  stand those usual suspects of cities such as NY, LA, MI..  So I was in trouble, until the words of the man who I consider to be the most important italian artist alive (Enzo Cucchi), echoed in my head: "Rome is not a city, its a forest made by cities! Layers of very old and very new places, overlapping,  happening all together, constantly, forever"
And that's how I moved here. 

ATP: How's living in the Roma Atmosphere?
MM: Fantastic! I never felt the need to escape, not even for one minute. Rome gives you a mission, as I am writing these days, replying to a questionare of Salvatore Lacagnina, Rome is the capital and at the same time, the border-city of our new Middle South.  The citizens here are amazing people who live under some kind of hypnosis but you can see that they can wake up at any moment and maybe change the faith of this unlucky country. Rome is what Berlin was once, here there is a Wall, the wall of Vatican where the powerful wave of the  Middle South crashes and its force is turned into a variety of products .
Like Berlin, Rome makes more sense with that Wall than without, although the Wall has to be destroyed and that is certain.
ATP: What does MACROeo(electronicOrphanage) consist of?   

MM: MACROeo (electronicOrphanage) is made by Digital Graffiti. The reason that I accepted Pietromarchi's invitation, was that he is open to my very abstract Modus Operandi. I am not a curator, neither I fit exactly - at this moment of my life at least- into what you would call "an artist".
In this empire of  Advertised Creativity we use to call contemporary art, I relate with nobody and I am touched by very little.
But I believe that after a whole century of vagrant culture- where art went visiting each and every corner of the World, its now the World coming to Art. Like humidity forcing its way under the primer of authorized aestetics, a new kind of graffiti shows us now stuff that I can't ignore.
So I am collecting some of that stuff and showing them at MACRO. As I am doing that, I am teaching other people how to look for similar signs. Art isn't about creativity, its about evocation. 

ATP: Can you tell me something about the next project at Macro?  

MM: On Friday were are hosting Peter Lunenfeld, a very powerfull thinker from Los Angeles who was around also at the First electronicOrphanage I did there. Lunenfeld's thought doesn't correspond with mine, its what I call "Telic" thought, he is specific, scientific, he is looking for answers and he isn't falling victim of aestetic preferences. Still, his thought and dialectic, opens roads of analysis for what is happening to us today. Here are the details of his visit. 

ATP: What was the public reaction to the first project in the Area?  

MM: It went great, they came more than 350 people and they stayed, Mai Ueda had to serve ElectronicTea Ceremony for 4 hours! It was poetic and really inspiring although you wouldn't be able to describe what exatly happened there. That's what I am after: situations we can't explain. The second event (First Act, March 15th), was more chaotic, with really many people visiting-because the Museum was having its big opening- still it was magic too.. It started as a battle against the Milanese Spirit: those furniture that MACRO insisted to install at what was before a beautifully empty place (Area). Then, it became the self-portrait of a somehow "broken" concept (the concept of MACROeo (electronicOrphanage). Its always a war against design..Still we survive somehow..

ATP: Is the Italian art system ready to be open to the 'new media'?
MM: The ufficial Italian artworld doesn't care. But its not only in Italy, the artworld everywhere, tries to avoid the real questioning about how do we live now, what are we really looking, what obsess us, how do we relate with reality and the problems with the so-called virtual reality.
ATP: Are there any interesting Italian artists who use new media?  

MM: There will be, once we are done with MACROeo (electronicOrphanage) : )
Seriously,  am sure there are, there must be everywhere, it would be sad if there are not. But they haven't show up yet.. One of the reasons I am doing the MACROeo(electronicOrphanage) in Rome, is to discover a few of them. 5 would be enough, they could take italian art out of its misery..

APT: Cos'è Laboratorio? 

Andrea Kvas/Nicola Martini: Laboratorio nasce spontaneamente, dal desiderio di un gruppo di artisti di lavorare in uno stesso luogo, al fine di confrontarsi sulla propria metodologia di lavoro. È iniziato quando Vittorio Cavallini, Nicola Martini e Jacopo Menzani invitarono nel loro studio - adiacente alle cave di argilla di Marti (PI) - Attila Faravelli, Andrea Kvas e Luigi Presicce a condividere quel luogo e un approccio specifico al lavoro. In seguito Laboratorio è stato ospitato da Brown Project Space, a Milano, e al momento si trova all'interno del programma di residenze del Macro, presso lo studio di Luigi Presicce.
ATP: Vi presentate come un organismo formato da molte 'cellule' (artisti). In che modo ogni artista contribuisce al gruppo? 

Andrea Kvas/Nicola Martini: Laboratorio è considerabile come organismo, ma chi lo compone non agisce col fine di modificarlo direttamente. Ogni partecipante al progetto mette continuamente in discussione la propria pratica condividendola con gli altri.  Grazie a questo costante confronto ogni artista plasma il proprio metodo, modificando inevitabilmente la struttura di Laboratorio.
Davide Daninos: Ogni partecipante contribuisce perciò al progetto grazie ad una propria visione soggettiva dell'insieme. Laboratorio è infatti un insieme formato dalla totalità dei lavori che i singoli partecipanti portano avanti all'interno del progetto. Ho recentemente definito Laboratorio un organismo per la sua capacità di crescere e di svilupparsi anche in base alle condizioni con cui si trova a confrontarsi. Questa sua attitudine dinamica è collegata all'analisi della processualità dei lavori sviluppati dai singoli partecipanti. Siamo infatti interessati a guardare i lavori nel loro presente, nella loro condizione di potenzialità e nella loro capacità di svilupparsi in una linea temporale. Laboratorio vuole dare quindi alla produzione e all'opera conclusa lo stesso valore.  

ATP: Siete interessati al 'come' più che al 'cosa'. Immagino che le vostre relazioni siano basate su continue e lunghe discussioni. In parole povere cosa significa che tra di voi esiste una connessione fondata sul come e non su cosa viene fatto?

Andrea Kvas/Nicola Martini: Laboratorio non è un collettivo né un progetto curatoriale, siamo un gruppo di persone che condividono un approccio, un metodo, che attraversa trasversalmente i nostri singoli lavori. Il punto focale del progetto, come la sua nascita, deriva da un'attenzione a ciò che sta prima del lavoro, a come ognuno si rivolge ad esso.
ATP: Siete attualmente al Macro 'dentro' alla residenze di Luigi Presicce (anche lui cellula dell'organismo). In concreto, cosa state facendo?
Andrea Kvas/Nicola Martini: Ognuno sta continuando a portare avanti le proprie ricerche autonomamente, esattamente come nelle prime due tappe del progetto (lo studio a Marti e presso Brown Project Space). Laboratorio è una situazione fluida che si adatta dinamicamente alle caratteristiche dello spazio,sia fisiche che funzionali, in cui si trova ad operare.
Davide Daninos: Il nuovo ambiente con cui Laboratorio si trova infatti a rapportarsi è lo studio di uno degli artisti invitati dal Macro all'interno del programma di residenza denominato studio in progress, che offre agli artisti invitati una sala espositiva come luogo di lavoro. Il mio apporto all'interno del progetto sarà dunque rivolto alle nuove variabili derivate dal sviluppare tale progetto all'interno di una istituzione pubblica. In particolare sono interessato ad analizzare la fruizione del processo di lavoro all'interno di uno spazio espositivo, e, di conseguenza, alla mediazione di tale processo, attraverso strutture preesistenti quali la didattica museale.

Maloberti ha ideato per il grande spazio bianco della Sala Enel due azioni in cui si confrontano e intrecciano in modo spettacolare energia fisica e immaginazione, resistenza e velocità, ordine e disordine. Due installazioni, animate dalla presenza di performer, completano il panorama di una mostra che è la più complessa e ambiziosa tra quelle sin qui realizzate dall’artista. Completa il programma dell’esposizione il video che documenta la precedente performance Circus.
