ORCHARD - Season #4
Finao al 6 maggio 2012 ///
c/o CAREOF /// Fabbrica del Vapore, via Procaccini 4 Milano
In the last years I have followed Orchard at a close range, trying to grasp the nuances, the possible echoes and by accompanying Christian Tripodina, along with Charlotte Pezzolo and Hilda Ricaldone from CHAN, into a definition of the sediment art of an orchard, designed as a project of an alternative and collective life. Arriving at the final season, the feeling is that the Orchard cannot be really finalized. As it is the case with orchards, in fact, Orchard continues to grow and take on different forms that will eventually crystallize among the paths that Christian may undertake in the future.
The effort of the four seasons has been to suggest the place - and its 'utopian' way of self-organized, shared and sustainable life - without ever describing it, relying on the potential of art. The passage has met a progressive refinement, it was obvious right from the beginning, because it is the result of trials, experiments and sometimes mistakes.
Orchard started off at CHAN in Genoa, with an installation that revolved around a display case, constructed with the wood of a dead chestnut tree, found in the ground adjacent to the orchard and accompanied by the sound of its own transformation into a table. The large display case protected the findings, organic or not, which Christian had recovered from the surrounding area and presented them to the public, as if was to lay the foundations for a story that would be developed over time. The performance / concert Coral Gardens and Their Magic that followed has seen the use of other findings such as tools, which were mixed with natural sounds recorded live. Everything in a 'sacred' ambient of a baroque ex-oratory, used this time to host an artistic ritual, accompanied by ornaments and costumes created for the occasion. At Palazzo Nicolosio Lomellino of Genoa was held the third season. At Cafhage the close-ups of tropical flora in the biosphere by Renzo Piano were in conversation with the exotic vegetation displayed on the frescoes created by Bernardo Strozzi, just like the constellations created by the consumption and the burnouts in the fabrics 'resurrected' from the land around the orchard, which seemed to respond to the representation of astrology on the ceiling of the homonymous room.

kept as fluid, and perhaps indistinct, as possible”

In the fourth season, Orchard is confronted
with a space beyond, the industrial space of Careof in Milan, creating a short
circuit between the construction materials of the building site nearby, the sketching
on carbon paper of the architecture and vegetation in the orchard,
the soundtracks on vinyl, which had started the project and -just like
light bulbs- the lighting visions of this place " così
lontano, così vicino “ (“so far, so close").
