Jeff Koons

The Fondation Beyeler is presenting the first exhibition ever devoted by a Swiss museum to the American artist Jeff Koons (b. 1955). Koons, likely the best-known living artist, has for decades been causing a furore with the combination of popular and high culture that informs his art.
Our extensive presentation focuses on three central series of works – The New, Banality and Celebration – which represent crucial stages in Koons’s development and lead to the nucleus of his thinking and creative activity. The New comprises the ready-made-like cleaning appliances of his early period, symbols of newness and purity. Banality includes those traditionally crafted sculptures in porcelain and wood which have since become (post-)modern icons. Finally, in the Celebration series, on which Koons has been working for almost twenty years, appear high-gloss steel sculptures of unique material perfection, and large-format paintings in which the artist celebrates childhood in a veritably baroque way. Koons’s equally spectacular and subtle works are repeatedly concerned with themes such as innocence, beauty, sexuality and happiness. These reflect his conception of an art that is accessible to every viewer.

Philippe Parreno  

For his exhibition at the Fondation Beyeler, French artist Philippe Parreno presents two new films mise en scene with a choregraphy of sound and images that guides the visitor throughout the space. The first film C.H.Z. ("Continuously Habitable Zones") is linked to a territory. The film gives perspective to a black garden constructed in Portugal. A landscape produced a film, and a film produced a landscape. The landscape is perennial; it is what the image rejects. A second film, Marilyn, is a portrait of a ghost, Marilyn Monroe. The film conjures her with a phantasmagoric seance in the suite at the hotel Waldorf Astoria in New York where she lived in the 1950s. Her presence is reproduced by three algorithms: the camera becomes her eyes, a computer reconstructs the prosody of her voice and a robot recreates her handwriting. The dead is incarnated in an image.

Tutti pronti per partire? Io no, ma ce la posso fare. Anche quest'anno 'ci tocca' Art Basel e annesse Liste e Volta ecc. A Basilea, comunque non tutto si consuma in fiera, anzi. Con il progetto Art Parcours si potrenno vedere installazioni, proiezioni e performance in giro per la città. Non vorrei perdermi i fuochi d'artificio di Cerith Wyn Evans nella piattaforma galleggiante sul Reno accanto a Mittlere Rheinbrücke o la performance di John Bock sul battello. Altri 8 progetti in giro.. munirsi di mappa!
Alla Fondation Beyeler, a parte la mostra di Basquiat, c'è la grande mostra di Felix Gonzalez-Torres 'Specific Objects without Specific Form'. Un altro progetto sempre dell'artista, organizzato dalla fondazione: la realizzazione di grandi cartelloni in giro per Basilea, Berna, Lucerna, St. Gallen e Zurigo, e una grande installazione nel Rheinbrücke Mittlere di 240 metri di lampadine. Allo Schaulager la mostra di Matthew Barney. Dalle foto visibili nel sito del museo.. non so cosa aspettarmi: Barney che disegna con un pesce che ha un carboncino in bocca.. o mentre è legato con una corda elastica su una barca.. ecc ecc. Vedere per credere
